Job Summary:

A Project Estimator is responsible for preparing cost estimates for product manufacturing, construction projects, or services to aid management in bidding on or determining the price of a product or service. May specialize according to service performed or type of product manufactured.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Analyze blueprints and other documentation to prepare time, cost, materials, and labor estimates.
  • Assess cost the effectiveness of products, projects, or services, tracking actual costs relative to bids as the project develops.
  • Consult with clients, vendors, personnel in other departments, or construction foremen to discuss and formulate estimates and resolve issues.
  • Confer with engineers, architects, owners, contractors, and subcontractors on changes and adjustments to cost estimates.
  • Prepare estimates used by management for purposes such as planning, organizing, and scheduling work.
  • Prepare estimates for use in selecting vendors or subcontractors.
  • Review material and labor requirements to decide whether producing or purchasing components is more cost-effective.
  • Prepare cost and expenditure statements and other necessary documentation at regular intervals for the project and maintain a directory of suppliers, contractors, and subcontractors.
  • Set up cost monitoring and reporting systems and procedures.
  • Establish and maintain tendering process and conduct negotiations.
  • Conduct special studies to develop and establish standard hours and related cost data or to effect cost reduction.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Professionalism and strict confidentiality
  • Four or more years in a professional setting

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:

  • Microsoft Office: (Excel/Word/PowerPoint/Outlook/Project)
  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential to work closely with team members and managers and effectively manage problems as they occur.
  • Leadership: As a primary point of contact for team members, you must be able to provide guidance and feedback for achieving goals.
  • Organization and time management: Managing an entire team’s daily activities and needs requires an excellent ability to multi-task and effectively manage your time.
  • Computers and date entry: Using software such as Procore and Plan Swift is critical in managing daily responsibilities.
  • Problemsolving: Although project managers may step in to handle significant problems, you should be prepared to work through and resolve minor issues without assistance.
  • Positive attitude: Generally, a positive outlook makes it easier to handle the stress of unexpected challenges and helps the entire team stay positive and motivated.
  • Trust and Integrity: This is a must when dealing with each other or clients. There is zero tolerance for unethical behavior in any sense.
