Hurricane Helene Relief Efforts
After seeing the devastation from Hurricane Helene in the western counties of North Carolina, the Carolina Commercial Contractors team jumped into action.
Susan Keller, Carolina Commercial’s head of Research & Development, worked quickly to partner with Downtown Sanford, Inc. and Visit Sanford to start a county-wide donation drive at the Visit Sanford Welcome Center. Partnering with several other local businesses, churches, non-profit organizations and the wonderful residents of Sanford and Lee County, we’ve been able to deliver 5 trailers full of much needed supplies to western, NC.
Supplies were delivered to Wilkesboro, Blowing Rock, Morganton, Burnsville, Mitchell, Yancy, Madison, Haywood, and Avery Counties which were then routed to other communities throughout the mountains. Heather Hockaday, Town Manager of Burnsville, expressed her gratitude, “I appreciate what Sanford donated so much. The generosity was overwhelming. Yancey County is grateful. It was a true blessing.”
On October 5th, CCC also partnered with Raleigh Executive Jetport on their family day to “Pack a Plane.” This annual community celebration included opportunities for children to explore aircrafts and fire trucks, try treats from local food vendors, and enjoy other entertainment such as DJs, bounce houses, raffles and more. Those that attended Family Day donated 2,000 pounds of supplies which were then flown to Morganton where their distribution center will ensure communities in need receive water, non-perishables and other donated items.
Despite being almost one month out from the catastrophic flooding caused by Hurricane Helene’s path through the southeastern United States, many communities in eastern North Carolina have a long journey ahead as they continue clearing debris, repairing damage, and in many cases rebuilding from the ground up. It’s crucial that we continue supporting our neighbors in the weeks to come. Donations can still be made to The Build for Good Foundation or the North Carolina Disaster Relief Fund.
Thank you for your continued prayers and generous donations! We’re so proud to call Sanford home!
