CCC Chosen as General Contractor for OMI’s New Homeless Shelter
Outreach Mission Inc. broke ground on their newest homeless shelter on Friday, July 19th at 507 S. Third Street in Sanford, NC.
Slated to open in 2025, the Samuel J. Wornom Community Shelter will house 76 client beds including 4 family rooms, a full kitchen and a laundry room. After 6 years of fundraising, a large crowd gathered to celebrate this exciting step forward in addressing the needs of those experiencing homelessness in Lee County.
Carolina Commercial Contractors is honored to be chosen as the general contractor for this much needed community shelter in our hometown. Carter Keller, Managing Member of CCC, said “Having grown up in this town, we’re excited to be a part of a project addressing immediate and basic needs of some of our community members. Thinking about the many people that will stay here, share meals here and find hope in this shelter is inspiring.” Other partners in the project include the OMI board, staff and volunteers, the Wornom family, SECU Foundation, Fidelity Bank, North Carolina Housing Finance Agency, Truist Bank, the McSwain Foundation, Live Oak Foundation, Lee Brick, Chatlee Boat & Marine, Heritage Concrete, Cannon Foundation, Brick Capital Community Development Corporation, and Sherman Architecture.
As former mayor Chet Mann said during the ground breaking, “When we do things right in Sanford, it comes down to collaboration. Everything gets done with the hard work of our community members. What we have been able to do is bring together various agencies in Lee County and Sanford involved with helping people in need to collaborate together. The outcome is going to be this incredible facility that we so sorely lack and will greatly help our town tackle homelessness.”
