City of Sanford Celebrates Groundbreaking for Sanford Fire Department #5
SANFORD, NC – Sanford, a city on the rise, took a significant step towards bolstering public safety as CCC team members joined local officials for an inspiring groundbreaking ceremony on Tuesday, August 29. The event marked the commencement of construction at the future site of Sanford Fire Department’s state-of-the-art fire station, located at 3945 Colon Road.
As Sanford’s population grows, ensuring swift access to public safety services remains a top priority for city officials. The groundbreaking of Fire Station #5 symbolizes the start of a $12 million investment dedicated to enhancing infrastructure and equipping the Sanford Fire Department for the future. Mayor Rebecca Wyhoff Salmon presided over the ceremony and was joined by representatives from the offices of Senator Thom Tillis, Senator Ted Budd, and Representative Richard Hudson, who expressed their unwavering support for the local fire department and its dedicated first responders.
“Public safety is the bedrock of a thriving community. Fire Station #5 is critical to the city’s overall vision and will ensure Sanford can grow sustainably for many years to come,” stated Mayor Rebecca Wyhoff Salmon. She likened the station, visible from US-1, to a symbolic gateway that welcomes both residents and visitors as they enter and exit Sanford via this major thoroughfare.
Fire Chief Matt Arnold also conveyed his gratitude and enthusiasm for the upcoming facility, which will serve the Sanford-area community. “This new station is a visual representation of the growth we are experiencing, and will ensure our ability to accomplish our goal of rapid and effective service to our residents.”
The Mayor and Sanford City Council members used golden shovels to commemorate this momentous occasion. Notable attendees included former Mayor Chet Mann, Representative John Sauls, and representatives from ADW Architects and Carolina Commercial Contractors, along with several members of the Sanford Fire Department.
